Nursing Scrubs
The term "scrubs" was coined from the fact that medical
workers (doctors, nurses and other healthcare
professionals) have to "scrub in" for surgery in an
operating theatre. This term is now used to refer to any
medical uniform worn in hospitals, including nursing
scrubs, short-sleeved tops and pants.
In the past, nurse scrubs used to be seen only in blue and
green but these days, they can be found in a variety of
colors, patterns and some even contain cartoon
characters, enough to put a smile on a child's face.
Bright, cheery medical uniforms are ideal for use in the
children's ward of a hospital. This signifies the
importance of the clothes worn by medical staff in
conveying confidence and assurance to patients. For this
reason, many hospitals take great care in choosing the
right colors of nursing scrub to be worn in their
various departments. What may work in one department may
not be quite as suitable in another department. For
example, a uniform that features cute cartoon characters
may not be appropriate for use in a hospital's Intensive
Care Unit.
Because workers in the medical field work long and hard
hours, their garments have been designed specially to be
highly durable. The fabric used is generally resistant
to most stains so that they can be washed and worn over
and over again without looking over-used. In addition,
some scrubs are made from high quality material that
helps to keep it free from wrinkles. This is an
important characteristic as sometimes nurses and doctors
working the night shift have to sleep in their clothes
because they have to be "on call" at all times.
The variety that nursing scrubs come in these
days allow these medical workers to find a cut and fit
that is most flattering to their individual body type.
Maintaining its look of professionalism, wearing a
uniform that is made to fit you will add to the
motivation of going to work and doing a job well done.
There are a few popular brands that have developed
nursing garments to suit a variety of styles and
preferences. Choose carefully, keeping comfort and
quality as your most important priorities.
