Scrubs Uniforms
"Scrubs" generally refer to any medical uniform
typically made up of a short-sleeved shirt and pants. In
the past, these outfits were worn by surgeons, nurses
and other healthcare workers when "scrubbing in" for
surgery in the operating theatre. Over time, these
clothes worn were termed "scrubs". Today, the term
scrub uniforms is one that represents the work
clothes worn by medical staff. These clothes can be of
any color, pattern and can even don cartoon characters
(especially for staff working in Children's hospitals or
in the children's ward of a hospital).
The main purpose of these medical uniforms is to protect
the wearer from any spills, stains or splatters. These
garments should also be made from durable,
stain-resistant materials so that the wearer is kept
looking professional at all times. This is extremely
important because it conveys a sense of confidence and
represents the level of skill that a healthcare worker
has and gives the patient a certain level of comfort and
assurance. For this reason, always choose scrubs made of
high-quality fabrics to guarantee its durability and
long lasting wear over intensive use.
Hospitals often choose uniforms of different colors to
represent their different departments. They tend to take
both the functionality of the uniform and its impact on
the patients into account when choosing these colors.
For example, a brightly colored garment (and even one
that has cheery patterns or cartoon characters) will be
most apt for patients who are children. This same
garment will not be as effective if worn in the
Intensive Care Unit of the same hospital.
Most medical uniforms are made from a blend of polyester
and cotton, marrying the durability of polyester and the
comfort of cotton. Garments are now also readily
available online and can be purchased at a discount if
bought in bulk. There are a good many popular designers
of scrub uniforms that offer their products in a
wide variety of colors, patterns and cuts to suit
different body types and frames, allowing the wearer to
feel confident and fresh while working long, hard hours.
